Creating accessible digital content for all students is the responsibility of everyone involved in developing Canvas course materials. Accessible content benefits students with disabilities and promotes inclusivity.

Working in Canvas with a focus on digital accessibility may feel unfamiliar at first, but it aligns with effective teaching practices you likely already use in your classroom. By concentrating on the skills taught in this course, you can create content that fosters a more accessible digital environment at UIC.

Learning these skills is quick, and applying them to your Canvas pages will help address many common accessibility issues faced by individuals with disabilities. If you haven't considered accessibility in your course design before, start small and gradually build from there.

Course Navigation

This course is made up of several modules designed to help you design an accessible Canvas course. The first module contains a brief checklist you can use to create accessible courses. The second includes information on how to create accessible content using the Rich Content Editor. Both of these modules are applicable to all course instructors.

In the third module, we have provided you with accessibility information on some of the centrally supported Canvas tools you might use in your course. Feel free to read these pages at your own discretion.

In the final module, you'll be introduced to YuJa Panorama, an extra accessibility tool that will eventually replace Ally.
